Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman received a phone call from French President Emmanuel Macron, during which the two leaders reviewed the latest regional developments and their repercussions, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Monday.
During the call, Macron expressed France’s solidarity with Saudi Arabia, strongly condemning the repeated Iranian attacks targeting the Kingdom.
He reaffirmed Paris’s support for all measures taken by Riyadh to safeguard its sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity.
The call came as regional tensions continue to escalate. A day earlier, Macron had called on all parties to the conflict to impose a moratorium on strikes targeting energy facilities and other civilian infrastructure.
He also urged Iran to allow the free flow of traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, warning on social media platform X of the “risk of uncontrollable escalation.”
France has been vocal in its criticism of Iran in recent days. Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot, during a visit to Israel on Friday, said any lasting resolution to the Middle East conflict must be underpinned by a political settlement — one that requires Tehran to fundamentally change course.
“Whatever the outcome of the ongoing military operations, it must be complemented by a political solution that produces lasting results,” Barrot told journalists in Tel Aviv, adding that “the Iranian regime must be prepared to make major concessions — a radical change of stance.”
Barrot also echoed European calls for a halt to strikes on energy infrastructure, following an Israeli bombardment of Iran’s key gas field that sent energy prices higher.
