Dar Al‑Handasah began in Beirut in November 1956, founded by four engineering professors from the American University of Beirut. Their shared vision was to build a world-class consulting firm rooted in regional expertise. In 1958, the company completed its first major project—the Kuwait Power Station. Over time, Dar introduced a partnership model that offered equity to senior employees. This approach strengthened commitment and ownership. As a result, the firm expanded rapidly across the Gulf, Africa, and beyond.

In the 1980s, Dar evolved into a global consultancy through strategic acquisitions, including Perkins&Will in Chicago, Penspen in London, and other respected firms.
